Appendix 15.

Computer spreadsheet version of the IWAP

A computer spreadsheet is available to assist with the IWAP. It requires a computer with Microsoft Excel for Windows. The file name is IWAP10.XLS and it comes with a sample data file, SAMPLE.XLS.

The spreadsheet consists of two 8.5- by 11-inch pages when printed. The first page is for input of map measurements for a watershed. The second page calculates and displays the 13 indicators, their scores, and the watershed’s hazard indices. The spreadsheet offers several advantages, including:

• Labour and the possibility of computational errors are reduced.
• Results are displayed and printed in a format common to all users.
• Hazard indices can be generated quickly for different planning scenarios.
