Appendix 3.
Lakeshore classification criteria for wildlife/biodiversity values
Class A:
- Lake or lakeshore provides rare ecosystem or habitat for threatened or endangered species, or a species of high regional importance; the ecosystem or habitat is vulnerable to damage by forest harvesting activities in close proximity to the lakeshore.
Class B:
- Lake or lakeshore provides habitat for species that would be vulnerable to damage by harvesting activities in close proximity to the lakeshore; the habitat is relatively uncommon in the region.
Class C:
- All other lakes in Natural Disturbance Types 1 and 2 (NDT 1 and 2).
Class D:
- All other lakes in Natural Disturbance Type 4 (NDT 4).
Class E:
- All other lakes in Natural Disturbance Type 3 (NDT 3).
Note: In general:
- NDT 1 and 2 include most Engelmann Spruce - Subalpine Fir and Interior Cedar - Hemlock forests.
- NDT 4 includes Interior Douglas-fir forests and Douglas-fir stands in other zones.
- NDT 3 includes most Sub-boreal Spruce, Sub-boreal Pine - Spruce, Montane Spruce, and Boreal White and Black Spruce forests.
