Lakeshore classification criteria for fisheries values

i. anadromous salmonids,

ii. rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, brown trout, bull trout, Dolly Varden, lake trout, brook trout, kokanee, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, mountain whitefish, lake whitefish, Arctic grayling, burbot, white sturgeon, black crappie, yellow perch, walleye or northern pike, or

iii. identified threatened or endangered fish, or

iv. regionally important fish as determined by the district manager and the Deputy Minister of Environment, Lands and Parks or a person authorized by that Deputy Minister.

Class A:

• Lake contains rare or endangered fish species year-round or seasonally.

• Lake contains unique genetic stock or genetic stock that is uncommon or rare in the Environment Region or Forest District.

• Shoreline areas are identified as providing spawning habitat for regionally important fish species categorized as gamefish.

• Lake is under 1000 ha in surface area and supports regionally important species that are highly sensitive to habitat damage or fishing pressure.

Class B:

• Lake offers angling experience that is uncommon or rare in the Environment Region or Forest District.

• Lake has an enhancement project designed to improve fish productivity.

Class C:

• Lake supports, or seasonally supports, a regionally important fish species or, if barren, has the physical and chemical characteristics to support regionally important species.

Class D:

• Lake has no regionally important fish species, but does have other fish species present.

• Lake’s fisheries potential is limited by the physical or chemical characteristics of the lake.

• Lake has no enhancement potential (physical or chemical) that would allow for survival of regionally important fish species (but enhancement, once complete, would elevate the lake classification).

Class E:

• Lake has no existing or potential fishery, because of limitations in the physical or chemical characteristics of the lake.

• Lake has no regionally important fish species present.

• Lake has no fisheries enhancement potential (high cost:benefit ratio).
