Objectives:

  • To test three herbicides for repression spacing in excessively dense lodgepole pine by applying herbicides in strips and counting the killed and damaged trees.

Experimental Design:

Treatments

  • Four treatments were tested. These were Vision® in water (6 litres of product in 100 litres of carrier per ha.), Release® in water (8 litres of product in 100 litres of water per ha.), Release® in oil (8 litres of product in 100 litres of carrier per ha.), and a no-treatment control. All treatments were ground applications with backpack sprayers.

Layout

  • The study is a randomized complete block, with three strips (100m x 3 m) of each of the four treatments. There is a l m no-spray buffer between each strip.
  • Twenty assessment plots (r = 1.26 m) were used in each strip, spaced at 5 m intervals down the centre of each strip.

History:

  • 1994 - Pre-treatment assessment and spray application (July 6)
  • 1995 - Second season assessment in fall
  • 1996 - Final Report

Status: Dormant

Comments:

Release was more effective than Vision®, and Release® in water was recommended for further trial.
