Objectives:
The objectives of this study are:
-
To determine how residual basal area composition affects the growth and yield
of mixed conifer and Douglas-fir/larch stands in the Interior Douglas-fir
(IDFdm2) zone.
-
To identify optimal stand management regimes, for these stands, from a
growth-and-yield standpoint;
-
To quantify the species composition and abundance of regeneration under these
stand management regimes.
Experimental Design:
The study consists of a completely randomized design with four treatments
and four replications. The treatments consisted of an unharvested control
and three levels of residual basal area retention (8 m2, 16 m2
and 24 m2). A total of 16 plots are involved. Individual
plots are square, and all are 1.0 ha in size, or 100 m on edge.
History:
-
Summer 1993 - plot boundaries laid out.
-
Fall 1993 - baseline (pretreatment) growth and yield assessment conducted
-
Fall 1994 - harvest
Status: Active
