Objectives:

To compare the growth and development of a number of individual western larch trees in a young, pure stand, after being subjected to three intensities of thinning and control.

Experimental Design:

Treatments

  • Individual trees were spaced in circles with radii of 2.4, 3.6 and 4.8 m, plus an unspaced control.
  • Six diameter classes between 2.5 and 15.0 cm were recognized at the time of spacing.

Layout:

Six trees in each of the six diameter classes were spaced to randomly assigned radii of clearance. Trees are located for remeasurement using a stem map of the area.

History:

  • 1958 Project establishment and first assessment
  • 1963 - 1998 Remeasurement and progress report every five years
  • 1999 classified biogeoclimatically.

Status: Active
