Objectives:
-
To monitor the general climate and snow conditions prevailing in WADF from
alpine to valley bottom.
-
To provide watershed level climatic information for studies evaluating
silvicultural alternatives and watershed response to forest harvesting.
Experimental Design:
-
Climate stations monitoring air temperature, relative humidity, soil
temperatures, snow temperatures, wind speed, wind direction, precipitation
- rain and rain/snow and snow accumulation in terms of water equivalent and
depth have been established. Data is being collected with the aid of data
loggers.
-
Data will be summarized on a yearly basis and will be available to researchers
and others as requested. Snow and climatic information will form the basis
of evaluating the response of stream flow to snow melt and precipitation
events.
History:
Establishment of stations began in the fall of 1992. Upgrading with additional
equipment to ensure all stations are measuring all parameters is ongoing.
-
1992 - 2001 Data collection
Status: Active

Comments:
This project was originally entitled "Climate and Snow Monitoring for
the West Arm Demonstration Forest". It was subsequently combined with
KB96066 Sediment Budget of Watersheds in the
West Arm Demonstration Forest under a revised title.
