Objectives:
-
To determine the extent and pattern of genetic variability in western redcedar
between populations and families within populations. Past biochemical tests
indicated little, if any, genetic variation in redcedar. These are preliminary
tests to determine if there is any genetic variation for redcedar in growth
and adaptability.
Experimental Design:
Treatments
-
Ten (10) populations of western redcedar approximating the geographic limits
of redcedar's natural range in BC, and including northern California. Each
population is represented by 3 open-pollinated families.
Layout:
-
Randomized complete block with 12 blocks. Noncontiguous, interlocking
replications with 2 replications per family per block.
History:
-
1993 Plantation establishment with 1+0 415s.
-
1995 Height and survival assessment
-
1996 Brush removal
-
1997 Brush removal at Champion Creek
-
1998 7th year assessment
-
2001 10th year height and survival assessment and maintenance brushing
