Objective:

  • To determine the effects of initial espacement (plantation density) on the growth and yield of western larch.

Experimental Design:

Treatments:

  • Five espacements (500, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 trees per hectare) are tested.

Layout:

  • Randomized complete-block design
  • Three replicates (blocks), each consisting of five treatment plots
  • Plots are square, variable size (depending on espacement) and contain 12 rows of 12 trees.

History:

  • 1994 plantation establishment.
  • 1998 five-year assessment.
  • 1999 establishment and five-year progress report.
