Project Number: EP 886.09 Installation #7
District: Rocky Mountain Forest District
Location: Gold Creek
Lat. 49 19'N - Long. 115 32'W
Opening # 82G033-038

Objectives:

  • To determine the response potential of young lodgepole pine to nitrogen and nitrogen + sulphur fertilization.
  • To determine the effect of sulphur application rate on response to N+S fertilization.
  • To determine the effect of form of sulphur on response to N+S fertilization.
  • To examine the nature of a sulphur source x application rate interaction.
  • To obtain soil and foliar analysis data to assist in deficiency diagnosis and the interpretation and prediction of fertilization response.

Experimental Design:

Treatments:

  • There are nine treatments consisting of factorial combinations of nitrogen and various forms and rates of sulphur application.

Layout:

  • Each treatment is applied to fifteen, 5-m radius "single- tree" plots (9 treatments * 15 reps/treatment = 135 plots) arranged in a completely randomized design.
  • The stand was 27 years old at the time of installation establishment.
  • The stand was thinned to 1100 stems/ha in 1979.

History:

  • 1989 Installation establishment and initial assessments
  • 1990 Foliar sampling and assessment of foliage mass response
  • 1992 -1995 Assessment on 3-year schedule

Status: Dormant
