Objectives:

To test the early field performance of 615 styroplug spruce in comparison with standard bare root spruce seedlings.

Experimental Design:

Treatments

Two stock types, superplugs (subsequently called 615's) and bareroots, are being tested, both fertilized (30 g Osmocote (18-6-12) per tree) and unfertilized at the time of planting. No site preparation was done before planting.

Layout:

  • There are two plots, in two separate openings.
  • Each plot contains eight lines of 25 trees, with the stocktype-fertilizer treatments randomly assigned to the lines.
  • Excavations after two years left 20 trees in each line.

History:

  • 1981 Establishment and first assessments
  • 1982 Excavation of 5 trees per line
  • 1982 - 1990 Assessments at approximately two-year intervals
  • 1991 - 1994 Climate assessments in block 2

Status: Dormant
