Objectives:

To evaluate the growth performance of western USA Engelmann and Colorado blue spruce provenances in southwestern British Columbia.

Experimental Design:

Treatments:

Seedlings from 114 seed sources from eight western states are tested. Seedlings were provided by G. Rehfeldt, USDA, Forest Service, Moscow, Idaho.

Layout:

  • The site contains 3 blocks.
  • A 9-tree square plot represents a provenance. Provenances are randomized within each block.
  • The middle seedling of each plot is marked with a wooden stake bearing a metal tag identifying the block and the provenance.

History:

  • 1991 plantation establishment and initial height measurements
  • 1993 third-year height measurements and maintenance.
  • 1996 sixth-year height measurements and maintenance.
  • 2000 tenth-year measurements and maintenance
