Objectives:

To provide genecological information to support current class "A" seed zone delineation and seed deployment within the new zone.

Experimental Design:

The experiment was established as a randomized complete-block design with six replicate blocks.

Treatments:

Test materials consist of 20 wind-pollinated families from each of the old West Kootenay, Mica, Shuswap-Adams and East Kootenay seed planning zones. The families sample the elevational distribution of interior spruce within each zone.

Layout:

Experimental units are 4-tree noncontiguous plots planted at 1 x 1 m spacing.

History:.

  • 1999 - Seedlings grown at the Kalamalka Forestry Centre
  • 1999 - Site preparation with an excavator
  • 2000 - Plantation established  on June 29
  • 2001 - Manual brushing and height assessment

Status: Active

Reports and Publications: none to date

Comments:

The test site was a western larch progeny test site (EP 1020) that was abandoned because of high mortality.
