Objectives:

To demonstrate and compare the growth performance of class "A" seed from six southern interior spruce seed orchards.

Experimental Design:

The experiment was established in a randomized complete-block design with two replicate blocks.

Treatments:

Test materials consist of one class "A" seedlot from each of six seed orchards:

  • West Kootenay high,
  • West Kootenay low,
  • Shuswap-Adams high,
  • Shusway-Adams low,
  • East Kootenay, and
  • Thompson-Okanagan

Layout:

Experimental units consist of 144-tree (12 x 12) square blocks with trees planted at 1 x 1 m spacing.

History:.

  • 1999 - Seedlings grown at the PRT, Harrop Nursery
  • 1999 - Site preparation with an excavator
  • 2000 - Plantation established  on June 20
  • 2001 - manual brushing and height assessments

Comments:

The test site was a western larch progeny test site (EP 1020) that was abandoned because of high mortality.
Planting is replicated at the Barnes Creek Clone Bank, east of Enderby.
