Objective:

To determine the effects of initial espacement (plantation density) on the growth and yield of interior spruce.

Experimental Design:

Treatments

  • Five espacements (500, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 trees per hectare) are tested.

Layout

  • Randomized complete-block design.
  • Three replicates (blocks), each consisting of five treatment plots.
  • Plots are square, variable size (depending on espacement) and contain 12 rows of 12 trees.

History:

  • June 2000 plantation establishment
  • 2001 beat-up plantation
  • Fall 2004 first five-year assessment scheduled

Status: Active

Reports and Publications: None to date

Comments:

During the first few years after establishment, mortality will be replaced with extra stock planted on the site.
