Forest Health | Planning & Practices | Forests For Tomorrow


The Southern Interior Forest Region Stewardship Planning and Practices Section is comprised of 17 experienced staff. We undertake complementary job duties in consulting, extension and decision support in the core disciplines of Forest Health; Planning and Practices and the Forests For Tomorrow initiative.

Our role is to provide interpretation and management of standards and procedures, operations guidance and support to decision makers, practicing foresters. This unique perspective of knowledge needs and use along with knowledge generation enables science-informed management of forest and range resources.

Forest Health Technician
Kamloops

Conducts the annual aerial overview survey for the southern portion of the SIFR.  Assists in the operational aspects of the defoliator program and many research projects involving insect and disease issues.

Part of a team of four silviculture specialists to provide strategic direction for the new Forests for Tomorrow program within the SIFR.  The main objectives being to reforest the large wildfires from 2003 and 2004 and also to use silviculture practices to help reduce the impact of the mountain pine beetle on timber supply and other resource values within the SIFR.

Provides professional analysis, advice and opinions related to a broad and complex range of on-the-ground forestry practices and issues related to protecting, managing and improving forest resources and protecting forest values.  Key contact for strategic land use planning issues within the Southern Interior Forest Region.  Coordinates activities within the Forest and Range Evaluation Program (FREP) for the Southern Interior Forest Region.

Provides professional analysis, advice and opinions related to a broad and complex range of on-the-ground forestry practices and issues related to protecting, managing and improving forest resources and protecting forest values.  Primary regional stewardship contact for Rocky Mountain, Kootenay Lake, Columbia, Arrow Boundary, Okanagan Shuswap and Cascades districts to assist with stewardship issues such as FRPA implementation (FSP and practices), land use planning, some aspects of TSRs/AAC determinations.

Is the main contact for the Kamloops, Cascades, Clearwater portion of Headwaters, Columbia and Okanagan Shuswap Districts. Provides technical and professional advice on entomological issues to all levels of government and licensees.  Develops and reviews strategic plans and provincial level strategies.  Conducts research; writes scientific and technical articles; gives training. She organizes and conducts the annual defoliator spray program for the southern portion of the SIFR.

Is the main contact for Quesnel, Central Cariboo, 100 Mile House, and McBride portion of the Headwaters District. Provide advice to Licensees, MOF staff and general public on bark beetles, defoliators and pests of young stands.  Contact for forest health legislation and policy issues, local C&E problems, FDPs and FIA projects related to forest health.  Coordinate annual aerial overview pest survey, winter mortality surveys for bark beetles, western budworm control operations, defoliator monitoring projects.  Monitor and establish permanent sample plots and carry out operational research trials when required.
