Stewardship - Forest Analysis

The forest analysis section provides regional support to a variety of forest management processes.  These include the chief forester’s allowable annual cut determination for timber supply areas (TSA) and tree farm licenses (TFL), the regional manager’s allowable annual cut (AAC) determination for innovative forest practice agreements, district and regional manager decisions around community forest agreements (CFA), and other decisions that require understanding timber supply impacts.

The primary work role of the section is to provide expert advice around timber supply related analyses.  While primarily in a review and advisory role, where time permits, we also provide analytical support in the form of GIS, forest estate modeling and other resource analysis and modeling.

The section works directly with MFR Forest Inventory and Analysis branch (FAIB) staff and forest district staff on all phases of the timber supply review (TSR), primarily by providing expert advice but at times as the lead on the timber supply analysis.  We are the primary contact for innovative forestry practice agreement (IFPA) holders around their forestry plans and applications for allowable annual cut increase.  We support other agencies through advice and at times analysis around timber supply implications (e.g., for wildlife habitat areas (WHA) and ungulate winter ranges).  We also provide advice to First Nations and other stakeholders around timber supply analysis associated with all these processes.
