Introduction
The Province of British Columbia has maintained
a forest science research program for over 75 years. This
program has played a distinct role in how the Ministry of
Forests manages the province's forest resources and is an
important expression of the Ministry's commitment to seek
innovative solutions to the complex forest management challenges
found in British Columbia. In fact, the mission of the Forest
Science Program is "to help provide solutions to
high-priority forest management problems in B.C. and to advance
resource stewardship based on scientific principles."
This mission is accomplished through regional
forest researchers and specialists who enhance the provincial
research program and focus primarily on operational issues faced
by field practitioners implementing the Forest Practices Code
(FPC). They help to improve the ecological understanding of the
forest land base and provide field advice to managers and
practitioners through their work in silviculture, ecology,.
earth sciences, growth and yield and forest genetics. |
