Roberts Creek Study
Forest
The Roberts Creek Study Forest, was established on the Sunshine Coast to demonstrate,
describe and compare a wide range of approaches for harvesting
and managing lower elevation Douglas-fir dominated ecosystems in
the CWHdm biogeoclimatic zones. The Study Forest is currently
made up of a demonstration block, the Phase 1 blocks established in 1996/97 and Phase 2 blocks established primarily for hydrology research.
The concept of dispersed retention harvesting was introduced to the Roberts Creek Study Forest in 1994. As part of a collaborative project, the Coast Region Research Section and the Forest Engineering
Research Institute of Canada (FERIC) produced a video to demonstrate some of the issues involved in planning and implementing a shelterwood harvesting prescription. Click here to view the video (15 minutes long; 77mb)
