Subject Index Help

The Subject Index is a database of Ministry of Forests and Range's Web sites and publications. When new content is added to the Ministry's Web site, Web publishers add this new information to the Subject Index database. The Subject Index provides a better method to search for content than a standard Internet search form.

The Subject Index, What's New and A to Z Index pages all use the same database but each display the information in different formats.

There is a subscribe feature to be notified of the latest items added.

Subject Index

The Subject Index is the primary search function and allows searching by keywords, type of publication, business area and dates. Clicking "Search" without entering any search criteria will return the entire database 25 records per page.

A keyword search is performed against the title and description of items in the Subject Index and can be changed to search just the title. Place double quotes around words to be treated as a phrase.

Select a type of publication or business area to limit the search results further.

The date range can be narrowed to find sites and publications published in a specific time period.

Search results are grouped by their type of publication and business area. This can be changed to display the results by most recent or alphabetically.

What's New

The What's New page displays the most recent items posted in the Subject Index. Ten records are displayed per page, a list of pages is provided at the bottom to find older sites and publications. The "permalink" is a URL that points to a specific What's New/Subject Index item. The permalink remains unchanged even after the entry has dropped off the first page.

A to Z Index

The A to Z Index displays all the items posted in the Subject Index alphabetically. Select a letter at the top of the page to find sites and publications that have titles starting with that letter.

Subscribe

This subscription page allows you to subscribe (or unsubscribe) to receive a monthly email of the items that have been added to the What's New/Subject Index in the past month. The email also includes a list of the Ministry's most recent news releases. There is also the option to subscribe via RSS feeds to receive immediate notification of new items posted.
