In the Cost Survey window, what is the definition of: -IAM-Long Term, -IAM-short Term, -IAM-Tempaory? Also, I take it we no longer use OP or BLOCK when completing the cost survey information (the Wendy Ward e-mail, Subject: ACTION: 2009F Road Cost Survey data review - deadline Oct 27th sent Oct. 19th, 2009)?
Thank You |

The maintenance table was not correct and will be changed to reflect only the 3 choices described below (excerpt from Interior Logging Cost Instructions)
a. Roads are either: (1) Long Term (2) Short Term or (3) Snow/Ice. Enter the appropriate road type from the drop down list. (DO NOT select Temporary).
b. Long Term: A long term road is a road with a continuous raised sub-grade and ditch line (the raised sub-grade and ditch line may be interrupted for short sections <100 m (e.g., when crossing a short section of rock or at the crest of a hill). In flat terrain the ditch line may simply be the depression created when subgrade material is excavated to create a raised subgrade.
c. Short Term Road: A short term road is a road with the stumps removed and a bladed running surface. There may be elements of ditching and elevated grade, particularly around wet areas but these features are not continuous.
d. Snow/Ice Roads: a single lane seasonal road including turnouts, with a flat road profile that is built with a combination of snow, ice and dirt, on a surface that may or may not have been stumped. The driving surface is built up using multiple layers of snow and ice such that extra stablizing material costs are not applicable. A flat road profile means the side slope is less than or equal to 15% and there is minimal side cut. Minimal means, cuts into mineral or organic soil must not exceed 0.5 m in depth for distances up to 0.1 km. Seismic lines being used forroads, that have not previously been used as roads, will be considered as new construction and qualify as snow/ice roads provided they fall within the above criteria.

I want to digitize an area that won't be logged. Where would I spatially link this area to? Also, I would like to create a map using this information. |

This should be done on the stratification tab of the block screen. Depending on what your TSO administrator has set up, there are generally several choices available in the stratification method dropdown and then further selections when a record is inserted. The spatial data is stored on the forest_XX.non_merch layer and a map can be produced via GEO ArcView or a simple shapes map via the print function of the Resources map window.

Please outline or point me in the right direction to find a way to export Genus highlighted activity maps into ARC or print nice looking with labels, legends and scales. Thanks |

The current BCTS Resources map window is not configured for producing maps or exporting shape features to other applications other than adobe.
All TSO's have set up map templates in the GEO ArcView application for producing various standardized mapping products. As an ArcMap application, it can also display any Genus layers and create custom map products. See your TSO Genus administrator for more information on Geo ArcView.
The new map window scheduled for piloting in the near future will have mapping capabilities.

Why is PAS showing up as an SU in the SP silviculture systems tab. |
-
May 13, 2009 -
Scott Rockley -
This is because the depletion overlay process within Resources has been changed to allow the inclusion of permanent access structures in the depleted area.
Previously, Resources would only populate the silviculture disturbance with productive SU’s. In accordance with RESULTS disturbance reporting standards, only previously existing roads should be excluded. To include PAS in the depletion, click on the radio button and to not include it, leave the button un-checked. It may be necessary for logical reporting reasons (RESULTS displays a disturbance event for each SU) to insert a new silviculture system where a clearcut system is not already available.

The following is an excerpt from the latest direction (Information Technology Communiqué No. 2009-03) we have received regarding cost survey:
“For roads constructed over multiple years and to meet milestone reporting requirements for completed road construction, costs may need to be pro-rated for a given fiscal year within RESOURCES for Cost Survey Reporting.“
If we use the “Incremental Completion” button in Road Activities to split our road segments for milestone reporting or for multi-year construction then individual records are also created in cost survey. Are we to cost survey each road segment individually or is there a way to combine these in cost survey so we are reporting on one road?

Paul Blomberg -
The following direction was received from the Roads Access Mapping & Information Technology Team (RAMITT):
One cost survey entry per road per fiscal year is the direction we are to follow. When incremental completion, construction spanning more than one year, construction on different segments, etc. create more than one record in the cost survey screen, these shall be rolled up in one overall cost per year for manual entry into CAS.
The RAMITT committee is currently reviewing the business process with BCTS HQ and further direction will be sent in the near future.

Under "Road Stucture" - "Detail-ABR" - "Type-CS" round is no longer in the drop down as a selection option for pipe. The only choice that fits for round pipe is other. Do we select other for round pipe? Also, for round pipe do we fill in the field for "X Rise-CS:" under the detail-ABR tab? |
-
May 7, 2009 -
The option to allow "round" to appear in the drop down in the "Road Structure"-"Detail- ABR tab" for "Type-CS" can be set in the Road Control Maintenance table in the Structure Definition tab. Only when you activate the Option section of the tab does it allow you to select the Division and add the option. This change is made by the TSO Administrator.
Q. Also, for round pipe do we fill in the field for "X Rise-CS:" under the detail-ABR tab?
No, you do not. X Rise- CS is an additional value filled in for non-round pipes and is a measure of the height. The span or width is entered in the diameter field. The CS indicates it is a cost survey item.

If Genus is shut down from task manager (when it is frozen) and you try to open it again (by clicking the icon) a message comes up that says you have a session already running and it can't open another instance of Genus. How do you get Genus back up on screen? |

I'm having problems trying to produce a SP area and stocking standard amendment ESF that identifies the stocking standards for the SU. I have identified in the admin tab of the SP that this is a major amendment and that it is a silviculture prescription. The ESF that is produced shows GML information, but no SU stocking standard information, and the activity code is A.
Any suggestions for other potential missed steps? |

Under the roads activity tab there is an option for construction type. Road reconstruction and road reactivation are just two many options. What is the difference? If I enter road reconstruction I am not able to bring up cost survey for that section of road. |

We have permanently deactivated an FSR from 0km to its end. I filled in the appropriate information in the Deactivation-ABR tab and Access Control tab but what changes do I make to all of the other tabs (activity and attributes) that show this road as constructed etc.? I will be closing the FSR file and this road will be deemed as non-status. |

Under road attributes module, select status tab and update status to deactivated. If there any major structures on the road, go to the road structures module and on the structure general tab update status code for the structure to removed and insert the deactivation date.
