From forests to fine art: crafting new opportunities

April 24, 2004

Minister of State for Forestry Operations Roger Harris presents Masset wood artist Gord Kricheldorf with awards and congratulations for his winning entry in the chainsaw carving contest at Woodfest 2004 in Quesnel. Woodfest, held April 21-24, highlighted the economic importance of forestry and opportunities that exist in the value-added wood industry. The theme was The Art, Business and Culture of Wood in B.C.

Masset chainsaw carver Gord Kricheldorf, with children Kelsey, Kazmin and Kade, proudly shows the awarding-winning bench he created for Woodfest 2004. Kricheldorf’s masterful design, featuring an eagle clutching a large fish in its talons, earned him First Prize as well as the People’s Choice Award. Minister of State for Forestry Operations Roger Harris acted as a judge in the competition.
