Province, Canfor Join Fight Against City's Pine Beetle

April 15, 2005

The Minister of Forests, local MLAs, municipal leaders, and Canfor representatives gathered in Rainbow Park on April 15, 2005 to announce the latest plans in the City of Prince George's beetle-timber salvage strategy. The partners in the Prince George salvage initiative each ran logging debris through a wood chipper to signal the start of the next phase in their working relationship. Rainbow Park is one of several greenbelts in the city that has been heavily impacted by the mountain pine beetle.

The Province of British Columbia presents a $1.2-million cheque to the City of Prince George as part of a contribution agreement to assist with managing forest fuels and reducing interface fire risks posed by beetle-attacked pine stands within the municipality. The Ministry of Forests also invited the city apply for a community forest agreement.
