Minister of Forests Mike de Jong took time June 15, 2004 to hand out tree-starter kits at Matsqui elementary school, his alma mater. Helped by Russell Johnson (Grade 5) and Jaed Reeves (Kindergarten), the Abbotsford-Mount Lehman MLA also planted a Douglas fir at Matsqui elementary’s new building. De Jong, who attended Matsqui elementary’s old building in the 1970s, explained the importance of forests to the latest generation of students at the school’s new site.
