Premier Gordon Campbell, Forests and Range Minister Rich Coleman, Kelowna-Lake Country
MLA Al Horning, Kelowna Mayor Sharon Shepherd and pupils of
Bankhead Elementary School celebrated the planting of the six billionth tree in
British Columbia since reforestation programs began in the 1930s. The tree
represents B.C.'s ongoing commitment to sustainable forest management.

Premier Gordon Campbell and six members of Bankhead Elementary School's Grade 5 class
plant the ceremonial 6 billionth tree, representing the province's commitment to
reforestation.

At the ceremony, members of Bankhead Elementary School's Grade 5 class sang a song they
learned as part of their curriculum on environmental studies about the
importance of taking care of oneself and the environment.
