New firefighting recruits attend bootcamp
May 9, 2006
Candidates for seasonal firefighting positions with the Ministry of
Forests and Range Protection Program must participate in a week-long
training and testing session held at the Ministry’s training camp, just
outside Merritt. In 2006, about 150 new recruits participated in
training bootcamp, which consists of both classroom and field training,
along with fitness testing. The photos show new recruits in the "pump
and hose" test, where they must carry a pump a distance of 100 metres,
carry rolled hose 300 metres, and then drag one end of a charged 1½ inch
hose 200 metres. This test must be completed in less than 4 minutes and
10 seconds.
