| Nursery and Shipping Administration System
NSA is used by private and ministry nurseries, Nursery Services staff, Ministry of
Forests field services and BCTS staff to maintain information about Ministry-funded seedlings while they are being
grown in forest seedling nurseries for reforestation. This information includes:
-
Nursery and Request Key - Ministry-funded Request Key information downloaded from
SPAR including nursery where seedlings are currently growing
-
Inventory - estimate of number of plantable seedlings to be lifted meeting stock
specifications
-
Lift - actual number of seedlings meeting height and diameter specifications being
lifted for shipping
-
Pesticide - pesticides which have been applied to growing seedlings or No Pesticide
Applied notification
-
Shipping and Storage - after seedlings have been lifted, actual number of seedlings
shipped to various cold storage sites in the province; seedlings are shipped to storage sites in the winter/spring
season and directly to agencies for reforestation in summer/fall
NSA is a java web application on the Ministry of Forests Oracle server in Victoria.

NSA Access Request Form.
The following document outlines the changes included in the NSA and NSARPT release
to production on March 28, 2008.
The NSA system receives its original database each year from SPAR after seedling requests
have been entered in the Seed Planning and Registry system and assigned to nurseries. Seedling request inventory
and pesticide data is updated as seedlings grow at private nurseries throughout the province. As seedlings are
lifted for each planting season, the shipping and storage data is maintained so carton location of seedlings is
known until seedlings are received for planting.
NSA data is entered at Nursery and Nursery Services sites throughout the province.
Following are the access groups in NSA:
1) Nursery - data sampling to provide current quality control and seedling inventory
information; pesticide, shipping and storage information for seedlings at private nurseries
2) Administration - Nursery Services sites maintain inventory, shipping and storage
information for seedlings at non-Ministry nurseries and cold storage sites within the nursery administrative zone
(coast, south and north)
3) Ministry View or Update - BCTS and Field Services staff can view seedling, shipping
and pesticide information for all Ministry-funded request keys in the province.
