Logging Residue and Waste System (WASTE)

Recent Changes

Recent changes are posted to the Application News page.

Overview

The Logging Residue and Waste System (WASTE) allows for the recording, viewing, updating and printing of logging waste information, to allow the Ministry to invoice licencees for monetary and cut control charges.

In British Columbia, rights to harvest Crown timber are conferred through a form of agreements specified under the Forest Act.  The agreements may make provisions for the licensees to carry out assessments of the volumes of logging waste left on the harvested areas.  The residue and waste volume data compiled from the assessments are used to invoice licensees.

WASTE is a web-based system which allows clients to enter, view, update print and submit waste assesment plans and data via the internet. There is no paper submission.  Utilizing the in-box function in the Waste System, the Ministry district staff can instantly approve or reject the submitted Annual Plans, Reporting Units and Blocks on-line.

ESF (Electronic Submission Framework)

The ESF is a combination of technology and tools which allows clients to submit data electronically.  The Ministry has developed an XML (Extensible Markup Language) schema for electronic submission to the waste system.  Using a transfer program compatible with the XML Schema, users may import data from handheld computers to the Waste System.

Specifications for developing the translation software relating the ESF can be found in the documentation links.  For more information on ESF please visit the following web page:
