Timber Pricing

The Timber Pricing Section is responsible for translating broad government direction into specific timber pricing policies and procedures and serves as the interface between government, the forest industry and the public on a broad range matters relating to timber pricing.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and development of Coast and Interior stumpage appraisal policy through the respective appraisal manuals.
  • Industry consultation through the Coast Timber Pricing Advisory Committee (CTPAC) and the Interior Appraisal Advisory Committee (IAAC).
  • Quarterly stumpage adjustments
  • Updates to the Coast and Interior Market Pricing Systems.
  • Collection, verification and analysis of Industry costs and revenues including logging, milling and silviculture cost data, log purchase prices and average market values for lumber and chips.
  • Maintenance and development of ministry computer systems including: General Appraisal System (GAS), Electronic Commerce Appraisal System (ECAS) Interior and Coast Selling Price systems (ISP & CSP), Coast and Interior logging cost surveys (CLS & ILCS)
  • Support for trade challenges, litigation, and negotiations under the Softwood Lumber Agreement 2006.
