Ground sampling and photo interpretation will be conducted by contractors who have received certification through training programs approved by the Ministry of Forests.

New!  Changes with respect to the certification of VRI and NVAF Ground Samplers as of May 9th, 2012.  See attached letter from the Manager of Forest Inventory [download document].

Training for VRI Contractors

VRI Training will be offered at intervals where sufficient demand justifies the delivery of that training.  Currently there is no scheduled VRI training.

Challenge sessions for VRI Photo Interpretation Certification, VRI Ground Sampling and NVAF may be offered on a demand basis.

The following are companies or individuals which currently employ one or more "certified" photo interpreter.  This list is provided to assist individuals in locating photo interpreters and companies for VRI photo interpretation projects.  We do not guarantee the accuracy of the list but, to the best of our knowledge, it is correct at this time.  If any errors or omissions are noted, please notify the above contact  [download list].
 
VRI Ground Sampling Company Listings

The following are companies or individuals which currently employ one or more "certified" or "partially certified" field sampling crew(s).  All sampling is to be conducted by crews certified in the appropriate modules.   This list is provided to assist individuals in locating field crews for sampling activities.  We do not guarantee the accuracy of the list but, to the best of our knowledge, it is correct at this time.  If any errors or omissions are noted, please notify the above contact [download list].


Certified Photo Interpreters List
This page includes a list all individuals that are certified as VRI photo interpreters and are eligible to work on VRI projects and the VRI photo certification renewal requirements [download list].

VRI Photo Interpretation Certification Renewal Requirements

Effective 2010 the required certification renewal period will be extended from five to seven years.  Thus certification will be valid for 7 years:

Certification renewal requirements are:

  • Submission of an experience update worksheet that includes: Successful completion of delineation and attribution of a minimum of five full VRI maps or FME (Full Map Equivalent), and/or

  •  Successful completion of the quality assurance or quality control on a minimum of one VRI Phase 1 project

 

Certification renewal after certification expiry is subject to any of the following two options:

  1. Submission of an experience update worksheet that includes:

Delineation and attribution of a minimum of 2 full VRI maps (FME) during the year of certification renewal request.  This work is to be accompanied by the names of the certified interpreters responsible for quality control of their work

  1. Successful completion of the VRI Phase 1 certification exam offered on an as needed basis*.
