In total, harvesting and processing the allowable annual cut in the Quesnel Timber Supply Area is estimated to generate approximately 5,155 person-years of employment in the province, 56 per cent of which is created within the timber supply area.
Approximately $64.0 million in provincial revenues is generated annually by timber harvesting in the Quesnel Timber Supply Area. This figure is based on the average total fees for harvesting public timber in the area ($15.33 per cubic metre based on 1993 information), plus estimated personal income taxes and other tax revenues. These estimates do not include the increased stumpage revenues being generated to fund the Forest Renewal Plan. While, on a provincial basis, stumpage revenues are expected to increase by as much as 80 per cent, it will not be possible to accurately estimate the impact of this change until the new policy has been in place for a period of time.
