Description of the Prince George Timber Supply Area

The Prince George Timber Supply Area is located in the north central interior of British Columbia. The timber supply area covers 7.5 million hectares making it one of the largest in British Columbia. A variety of landscapes characterize the area. A large central plateau is the dominant terrain feature, bounded to the east by the Rocky Mountains. At its southeastern fringes, this plateau extends into the Fraser River trench which is part of the interior wetbelt. Moving north, the terrain changes from gently rolling to mountainous, reaching into the Omineca and Skeena mountain ranges. Long, snowy winters and warm, moist summers create favourable growing conditions and good timber productivity in the plateau areas.

The Prince George Timber Supply Area is managed by three forest district offices, located in Prince George, Vanderhoof and Fort St. James.
