In anticipation of the initiation of a Land and Resource Management Planning process in the future, a Land and Resource Advisory Table has been created which includes representatives of local interest groups and government agency staff. This group is currently focused on assessing the candidate protected areas for the Protected Areas Strategy. Currently approximately 12.4 per cent of the total area of the Mackenzie Timber Supply Area has been identified as study areas for possible protection. Harvesting has been deferred in these areas until land use decisions are made by government.
