Provincial impacts

If the chief forester adjusted the Kalum-South area allowable annual cut to conform to the base case harvest level, with its initial 3.3 per cent reduction, it is estimated that, in total, 40 person-years of employment would be lost provincially. If the allowable annual cut was immediately reduced by 16.7 per cent to the long-term level sustainable level of 400,000 cubic metres per hectare, then, in total, 193 person-years of employment would be lost provincially.

If the allowable annual cut were reduced by 3.3 per cent and current taxation procedures were maintained, annual provincial government revenues would decline by $0.3 million. If the allowable annual cut were reduced by 16.7 per cent and current taxation procedures were maintained, annual provincial government revenues would decline by $1.2 million. As stated earlier, these estimates do not include increased stumpage revenue from the recently announced Forest Renewal Plan.
