On a provincial basis, it is estimated that a total of approximately 2,245 person-years of employment is created, including employment within the timber supply area, from timber harvested in the Cranbrook Timber Supply Area. This includes 968 person-years of direct employment in the forest industry and 1,277 person-years of spin-off employment in the service sector. This employment is estimated to generate $59.4 million annually in employment income. (SEA page 67)
Harvesting and processing timber from the Cranbrook Timber Supply Area is estimated to generate approximately $19.2 million in provincial revenue (SEA page 70). This estimate does not include the increased stumpage revenues being generated to fund the Forest Renewal Plan. On a provincial basis, stumpage revenues are expected to increase by as much as 80 per cent, but it will not be possible to accurately estimate the impact of this change until the new policy has been in place for a period of time.
