Description of the Cassiar Timber Supply Area

The Cassiar Timber Supply Area, the largest in the province, is located in the northwest corner of British Columbia. It is bordered by Alaska to the west, the Yukon Territory to the north and the Rocky Mountains to the east (see map on the cover). Administered by the Cassiar District office in Dease Lake and a field office in Atlin, this timber supply area covers approximately one-sixth of the entire province.

Because of its size, there is a wide range of climate and topography within the timber supply area. The coastal regions are dominated by mountainous terrain with large amounts of precipitation, while the interior is characterized by large plateaus which can be very dry.
