On a provincial basis, it is estimated that a total of approximately 1575 person-years of direct and indirect employment are created at the provincial level, including the employment within the timber supply area, from timber harvested within the Boundary Timber Supply Area. This employment is estimated to generate $47.6 million in annual employment income. (SEA page 58)
Based on the allowable annual cut of 700,000 cubic metres, it is estimated that forestry within the Boundary Timber Supply Area generates approximately $16.0 million in provincial revenue and $12.3 million in federal revenue annually. Stumpage accounts for $6.2 million of provincial revenues (SEA pages 61-62). These estimates were developed before the new Forest Renewal Plan was announced and do not include the increased stumpage revenues that will be generated through this plan. While on a provincial basis stumpage rates are expected to increase by as much as 80 per cent, it will not be possible to accurately estimate the impact of this change until the new policy has been in place for a period of time.
