Cranbrook Timber Supply Area (TSA)

The Cranbrook TSA covers about 1.2 million hectares in the southeastern corner of B.C. and includes the communities of Cranbrook, Kimberley, Sparwood, and Fernie.  The Cranbrook TSA is administered by the Rocky Mountain District.

Current Timber Supply Review (TSR)

The current allowable annual cut (AAC) for the Cranbrook TSA is 904,000 cubic metres.  In September 2008, the chief forester postponed the date for the next AAC determination to a date prior to November 1, 2015.

Section 8 (3.1) Postponement Order

The Forest Act — Section 8 (3.1) permits the chief forester to consider a postponement of the allowable annual cut to a date that is up to 10 years after the last determination, if the chief forester determines that the AAC is not likely to be changed significantly with a new determination.
