 Cranbrook
Timber Supply Area
The Cranbrook TSA covers about 1.2 million hectares in the
southeastern corner of B.C. and includes the communities of Cranbrook,
Kimberley, Sparwood, and Fernie.
The current allowable annual cut (AAC) for the Cranbrook TSA is
974,000 cubic metres, effective November 1, 2005. This AAC will
remain in effect until a new AAC is determined, which must take place
within five years of this determination, unless the
re-determination
date is formally postponed according to the provisions of Section 8 of
the Forest Act.
Current Timber Supply Review
The third timber supply review (TSR 3) was initiated in 2003. A key
component of the TSR is the preparation of a timber supply analysis.
With funding support from the FIA Land Base Investment Program, major
licensees in the Cranbrook TSA agreed to collaboratively complete
specific TSR activities including a timber supply analysis of the
Cranbrook TSA.
The Chief Forester's rationale for AAC determination was released
on October 12, 2005.
A description and full copies of the relevant documents released
for the Cranbrook timber supply review can be found on the 'Documents' site.
