Large Scale Forest Fire Mapping

The Ministry of Forests and Range (MOFR) is currently mapping large-scale forest fire activity throughout British Columbia using satellite remote sensing. In this work, the location and extent of large (>100ha) annual fires are determined using point data provided provided by the protection branch and locating the fire on the Landsat imagery. Fire extents are digitized on-screen in ArcMap.
Figure 1 shows an example of the fire mapping boundary.
