Maps of the Inventories

Objective

To assist Land Base Investment Program (LBIP) participants in investment decisions and inventory stakeholders in understanding the current inventory coverage, maps have been created for a subset of the inventories which have been invested in using Forest Renewal BC (FRBC)  and Forest Investment Account (FIA) funding.

Scope of Inventories Included

Due to the nature of the inventories, not all inventory projects lend themselves to this sort of tracking.  Those that do include:

  • Terrain Resource Information Management (TRIM);
  • Vegetation Resource Inventory (VRI) (by phase);
  • Predictive Ecosystem Mapping (PEM);
  • Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) and;
  • Recreation Visual Landscape Inventory (RVLI).

Mapping Hierarchy

The maps are sorted by Forest Region, Management Unit (TSA or TFL) and Inventory type.  There is a regional key map for each inventory and MU maps for each inventory.

Scale

Map scales range from 1:2,500,000 scale key maps (entire region) to 1:200,000 (TEM within Cranberry TSA).

Digital File Format

These map files are available free of charge in PDF format (for simple download and printing).

To view and print PDF files you require the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Currency

  • The Northern Interior Region was mapped first in the spring of 2005 (current to at least fiscal 03/04 investments and will be updated by March 2006 (current at least to 04/05 investments);
  • The Southern Interior and Coast Regions will be completed by March 2006;
  • It is the ministry’s intention to update these annually hereafter each December current to the previous fiscal year.

Accuracy

Due to the variety and nature of the data sources, the ministry cannot warrant the accuracy of the maps.  However, the user can assume these to be reasonable for determining map sheet level coverage.

The ministry acknowledges that the annual update process may not capture all of the existing or new inventories.  Errors in these maps should be reported along with the correct information to Map of Inventories Corrections.

A reward for the provision of information which results in the revision of these maps is offered.

A summary report of issues related to the Northern Interior is available here
