Notes

1. Cone and seed extraction and processing includes:
pre-treatment or conditioning of cones, kilning, tumbling, and/or screening, recovery of seed, disposal of empty cones. Product is bagged unclean seed; separation of coarse debris, initial separation, dewinging, drying to specified moisture content, final cleaning to a specified purity and mixing of seed. Product is clean seed in moisture proof bag.

2. Standard seed processing of seed extracted but not processed, off site includes: separation of coarse debris, initial separation, dewinging, drying to specified moisture content, final cleaning to a specified purity and mixing of seed. Product is clean seed in moisture proof bag.

3. Registration includes: assigning permanent registration number with the Seed Planning and Registry System, recording of collection information, extraction and processing data, test results, and weight of seed in storage as required by policy. Routine services included are inventory maintenance, seedlot information maintenance, and reports to seed owners.

4. Testing includes: sampling of seedlot and determining seeds per gram, moisture and purity %, germination % (capacity) and germination value (rate). Testing is comparable to International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) standards and procedures. Single germination capacity and rate tests are performed for Cw, Fd, Lw, Hw, Bg, Py, Pw, and Cy; two tests are performed for Bl, Ba, Bn, Sx, Ss, and Pli.

5. Special testing requests include: sampling of seedlot and performing a single germination, rate and capacity, moisture, purity and/or seeds per gram test. Modified sampling procedures may be used with testing to current standards as noted in item 4, above. Test results are reported to requesting agency and/or seedlot owner.

6. Storage includes: keeping seed in a secure, controlled atmosphere environment, and routine monitoring and re-testing for inventory and quality assurance purposes.

7. Withdrawal and preparation:
a. Withdrawal includes: removal of seed from storage, weighing of amount requested, bagging seed and packing for transport.

b. Stratification includes: preparation of seed by using normal running water soak, surface drying and chilling procedures. This is in addition to withdrawal. Small requests may need to be soaked in standing water.

c. Extended stratification includes: additional stratification and stratification re-dry techniques used for Abies spp., yellow-cedar and western white pine.

d. Special processing services presently include sizing and density separation processing. Sizing includes: separation into two fractions based on differences in physical seed size. Density separation processing (DSP) includes: seedlot characterization as to processing suitability and trial and production separations, either imbibitional and/or dehydrational. More information on these new services is available by contacting the TSC directly. These are in addition to withdrawal and standard stratification.

Owner, agency and/or nursery may wish to carry out the stratification and/or special processing. The TSC sponsors workshops on these topics; please contact us for more information.

8. Transport includes: chillpak is added to carton of withdrawn and packaged seed, TSC weigh bill prepared, carton secured and forwarded by courier, overnight delivery.

9. Seed sales: seed will be sold at published prices per kilogram FOB TSC.  Shipping will be at purchaser's expense.
