Background
Information:
In September/October
2005, changes were made in SPAR to
the 'Area of Use' (minimum and maximum
elevations) for several Class A seedlots
that were originally registered under
the Forest Practices Code. These
changes were made to ensure that the
genetic worth (GW) of each seedlot
was determined in accordance with
the Chief Forester's Standards for
Seed Use. A list of the potential
seedlot changes was completed in June
2005 and sent to seedlot owners for
their review and decisions prior to
implementation of the changes in SPAR.
Despite these changes,
under Section 8.10 of the Standards,
a person, at his or her sole discretion,
can continue to transfer a seedlot
registered under the Code in accordance
with the limits assigned to the lot
at the time of its registration.
In other words, if
a person ordered and subsequently
plants a seedlot in accordance with
the transfer limits identified for
that lot on SPAR prior to the aforementioned
changes, that person would not have
contravened the transfer standards.
The Chief Forester's
Standards for Seed Use can be accessed

The Seedlot
Detail Report has a new section -
"Area of Use History".
To run the SPAR Seedlot
Detail Report "Area of Use History":
- Go to Reports,
Seedlot Reports and select Seedlot
Detail Report.
- Enter the seedlots
that you wish to report on and select
the report sections by entering
Y or N beside each section.
- Ensure that "Y"
is selected for "Area of Use
History".
- Submit the report.
It should open in Adobe Acrobat
Reader.
Note: The
historic information for most seedlots
only goes back to the creation of
the Seedlot Audit table earlier in
2005. The exception is for Sx seedlots
from Orchard 304. A datafix was done
so that the removal of SPZ = NE will
be included in the "Area of Use
History" section. This is because
we receive regular enquiries regarding
the Orchard 304 seedlots.
