The Ministry of
Forests and Range through the Forest
Investment Account supports the
expansion of seed orchard capacity
and the cooperative production of
vegetative materials through SelectSeed
Company Ltd. SelectSeed is an initiative
of the Forest Genetics Council of
B.C. (FGC), and is wholly owned
by the BC Forest Genetics Society.
A five-member Board of Directors
is elected by Society members and
directs SelectSeed. SelectSeed's
primary mandate is to support seed
orchard expansions needed to meet
FGC objectives and to provide program
management and business planning
for FGC activities. Activities for
SelectSeed are developed through
the FGC Business Plan, which is
approved annually. All work is based
on needs identified through the
FGC business planning process. The
performance management system developed
to monitor FGC programs also applies
to work conducted by SelectSeed.
