Research / Growth & Yield Plot LocationsIt is stated in the supporting regulations of the Forest and Range Practices Act that an authorized person who carries out a primary forest or range activity (includes woodlots) must ensure that the activity "does not damage or render ineffective a "Resource Feature". Section 5 (1) c of the Government Actions Regulations defines a resource feature as "Crown land used for research or experimental purposes". The spatial information for all priority Ministry of Forests and Range Research Installations and Inventory Growth and Yield permanent sample plots in B.C. is currently available to both government and non-government agencies. The data is stored in the Land Resource Data Warehouse (LRDW) (http://lrdw.ca/ ) and can be accessed by government and industry staff using ArcGIS, iMapBC, and Forest Mapview.For ArcGIS users: The Research Installation spatial data layer is located in the LRDW at:

For iMap users: (mapping sites can be found at http://www.nric.ca/) Start the program by clicking on the iMapBC BCeID/IDIR Logon link and entering your user name and password (do not use the iMapBC public site logon). Select the Layers Tab from the top menu bar and then click Add on the top right side. Click on the ‘Forest Grasslands and Wetlands’ folder in the add layers dialog box and check off 'Forest Research Installations – Government' or 'Forest Research Installations – Industry' if using a corporate BCeID account, to add the layer. You may also choose to add the 'Growth and Yield Active' or 'Growth and Yield All' layers from this same folder. Zoom into your area of interest or use the Find Location feature to select an area of interest. You can query the underlying attributes by selecting the "i" icon to the left of the layer name and then selecting display information ("i" button) on the top menu icon bar and clicking on the feature of interest.For Forest Mapview users: (mapping sites can be found at http://www.nric.ca/) Start the program by clicking on the iMapBC BCeID/IDIR Logon link and entering your user name and password (do not use the iMapBC public site logon). To add the Research Installations, select the Layers Tab on the top left of the menu bar and then click on the 'Research' folder under the Map Layers heading on the right side of the screen. To add the Inventory Growth and Yield samples, select the 'Land Cover' folder. Zoom into your area of interest or query attribute information as per the iMap instructions above. Note:
