TASS already has the mechanics to handle trees of varying ages, and trees planted part-way through a run. However, no work has yet been done on TASS to predict natural regeneration from seed.

Algorithms would be needed to:

  • determine seed production of existing trees.
  • spread seeds over the ground taking into account tree height, wind, crown cover, etc.
  • determine where forest floor conditions are favourable to germination.

A few methods of achieving this are being considered. See On-Site Projects: Regeneration and Seed Dispersal
