TIPSY 4.1 Error Bulletin 1 – Site Index Conversions in BatchTIPSY

Summary

Site index conversion equations weren’t working correctly in BatchTIPSY when one of the two species was using a surrogate database/ volume curve. For example, western larch has its own site curves, but uses the interior Douglas fir database for volumes. If you requested a conversion from a larch site index to a pine site index, BatchTIPSY used the conversion equations for Douglas fir to pine by mistake. This was true for all conversions between these species only: Ba and Hwc, Fdi and Lw, Pl and Lw, Pl and Bl, and Bl and Sw. If no equations exist, no errors occurred – for example, between larch and spruce.

Affected Software Version

BatchTIPSY 4.1 only. This doesn’t occur in Interactive TIPSY.

Corrected Software Version

4.1d. This is the same version number used for the previous release in spring ’07. The only difference is that the btipsy.exe file is now dated Apr 4/09 and the BatchTIPSY About box displays an April 09 date. The Interactive TIPSY About box still displays a Feb 2007 date since it hasn’t changed.

What TIPSY users should do

If you are using a government of BC computer, you would normally request TIPSY version 4.1d through WTS. However, we’ve been unable to get this version of TIPSY ‘packaged’ since requesting it in April. So we’ve put the new btipsy.exe file here on our download page. You might be able to just copy it into your TIPSY folder.

If you aren’t using a government of BC computer, you can download a generic (non-government) install package (tipsy41d_09.exe) for the corrected release from our web site, or download just the btipsy.exe file.
