Stand Density Management Diagrams (SDMDs) are useful
simplified models of stand development, growth, and yield designed for
even-aged crop planning. They present information in a format which
readily illustrates the patterns of change in and interactions between
density or some other measure of stocking, and several key descriptive
stand parameters such as mean diameter, top height and volume. A trained
user can easily distinguish, for example, the impact of density change
on patterns of stand development, and explore options for stand manipulation.
