Introduction:

Vegetation management is an integral part of forest renewal in British Columbia. Promoting the renewal of timber resources while retaining the highest levels of biodiversity presents the greatest challenge to forest managers. The Research Branch of the B.C. Ministry of Forests examines a wide range of silviculture management options including manual, biological, and herbicide treatments. Continual testing and demonstration of these treatment options provides information on treatment effectiveness, impacts and costs. The research into vegetation management options is providing the information and tools needed to make effective forest renewal decisions.
