New information and weevil-resistant seed is available for Vancouver Island!

Since the previous Stand Establishment Decision Aid, there have been some important new developments to support foresters planting and minimizing weevil damage to Sitka spruce on Vancouver Island.
  • Weevil-resistant seed is available. Attack rates are reduced by 50 to 70% compared to susceptible seed at a given site. This superior provenance seed from Haney and Big Qualicum can be planted in the Maritime or Georgia Lowlands Seed Planning Zones or the Seed Planning Units between 48 and 55 N up to 500 m elevation. Check SPAR and SeedMap for availability.

  • There is new data on site hazard for Vancouver Island. Click on links for more information.

This online tool will determine the weevil hazard for a site, starting with Step 1.
